Blood sugars

Every reading, and when the next one’s due

Type the number from the meter in mmol/L, tap which heel it came from, and Ronnie shows whether it’s in your target range and counts down to the next check.

  • Suggests which heel to use next, so each foot gets a rest
  • Your own target range, set by your care team
  • Reminders on your phone when a check, feed or nappy is due

Low readings

Your team’s plan, the moment it’s low

Write down what your care team told you to do. When a reading comes in under your target, Ronnie puts that plan in front of you, with a button to call the ward and a reminder to recheck.

  • The plan in your team’s own words, shared with your partner’s phone
  • A quicker recheck reminder after a low
  • Always free, as is logging a low reading

Built so patient information stays on the ward

Ronnie is designed around the questions your information governance and clinical safety teams will ask.

  • Cot records stay on the phoneProfessional mode never syncs and never sends cot records to our server. Cots are labelled by bay and cot, never by name.
  • Patient details cropped out firstBefore a chart photo is read, staff frame just the readings and black out names, hospital numbers and labels. Only the framed part leaves the phone.
  • Asked, not assumedRonnie explains how photos are handled before the first scan, and reminds staff to scan only where their trust allows it.
  • Not kept, not trained onChart photos are read by Claude, made by Anthropic. We don’t store them, and they aren’t used to train AI models. Every reading is checked by a person before it’s saved.
  • An aide-memoire, not the recordStaff keep charting in the baby’s notes as usual. Handovers say to share only through the trust’s approved channels.
  • Encrypted, with no trackingFamilies’ shared records are encrypted on the phone (AES-GCM) with a key we never see. No adverts, analytics or tracking cookies, and NHS emails are kept only as a scrambled fingerprint.

Why Ronnie exists

Named after our son, and made for the unit that cared for him

Ronnie spent his first days in the Starlight neonatal unit at Barnet Hospital, with blood sugars that needed checking around the clock. Between heel pricks, feeds, top-ups and nappies, the notes on scraps of paper soon got out of hand, so we built the app we wished we’d had.

It’s free for what matters day to day. Unlocking blood sugars after the first few days is a donation of any amount to the Starlight fund at Royal Free Charity (registered charity 1165672), made through JustGiving. 100% of your donation goes to the charity: Numeris Digital, who make Ronnie, receive nothing from it.
